Father daughter wedding song for a dad who wasn't there?

My sister is getting married and my dad is actually coming to the wedding after being a rude and saying he couldn't be there. Our mom and him split 20 years ago and father daughter relationship hasn't really been there for them. What is a song to dance to, none of the traditional wedding songs will do.

Father daughter wedding song for a dad who wasn't there?
Why do they have to dance? Nothing says they have to dance together. The guy is lucky he is invited and if he hasn't been there for you and your sister, why does he get the privilege of dancing with her at her wedding. Let him be a guest.
Reply:Personally, I wouldn't do it a father-daughter dance.
Reply:they might not have the best father daughter relationship but, this is a once in a lifetime dream. I don't really know what song to suggest but you never know if this can bring back that bond between them maybe traditional would be a good way to go. Good luck for you and your sister and i hope you can make a good decision on a song.
Reply:There is no law that says there has to be a father daughter dance.
Reply:Why do they have to dance together at all? If everyone knows the relationship was lacking, why be a hypocrite about it? Just because a wedding planner book says you need to have a father/daughter dance, does not mean you have to have it.

"If You Don't Know Me By Now." might be the best song.
Reply:if it were me, and the fact that my father hasn't taken the least bit of interest in my life in the last 27 years since he and my mom split, you better believe he wouldn't get an invitation from me. and if he did show up, he certainly wouldn't get a dance. I wouldn't waste my energy acting like he was a daddy to me, much less allow him to be a part of an integral moment in my wedding. I would dance with my mom, as she was really my father anyway, something upbeat and fun, and leave my father out of it. (hatred? no. just indifference. why should he be allowed to take part in the wedding if he didn't take part in her life?)
Reply:Maybe "Cats in the Cradle"?
Reply:I say skip it altogether. no need.
Reply:How about "Winter" by Tori Amos. It's mainly about how a little girl's father gets replaced as being the number one man in her life, but she still wants him to be proud of her, and there is still a tie even after she's moving on.

It has a slow tempo, so it's easy to dance to, and is just very pretty sounding.
Reply:How about "You were always on my mind" by Willie Nelson. It's a nice slow song to dance to, and it would convey the fact that even though he wasn't really "there" all the time, he was thinking about her.
