She uses a lot of past tense in the song, it makes it sound like a funeral-type song...but on wedding song websites it's listed everywhere. What gives?

Is the song, "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion good for a wedding or a funeral?
It could theoretically be used for either....no matter what it'll be cheesy.

The song is about how this guys love changed her for the better, that's why there is so much past tense.

My fiance is insisting on it....but I just don't think it's a good wedding song. Don't get me wrong, I like the song. Just not for a wedding......what do you think?

Is that his favorite Hymn? Put it in if it is, you dont have to have the words sung, you can just have the music played, but if its his favorite I think you should put it in. You can have them play it while people are being seated. People get weird about their favorite Hymns, they like to have them at certain times to give them a comforting feeling. Mine is "How Great Thou Art" and when I am upset or nervous or excited I sing it to myself to calm down. Its one thing and its only a song, I would let him have this one request.

Reply:I know the song, its a good song i agree. But its very depressing as its talking about the death of the christian savior. Its good that hes thinking about that, but you might want to point out its depressing side. Where as a wedding is supposed to be happy and joyous.

Try to convince him that the music should be agreed on for a happier time, than persay you went with the system of "i pick one, then you pick one" because then your not working together from the start and could possibly cause problems in the long run.

If he won't agree to having it played during the prelude, why doesn't he, the officiant %26amp; groomsmen process in to it? That way he gets his song, you don't have to hear it %26amp; if any question is raised why you chose that song, you can refer people to him. :)

I'm really not sure if it's a "wedding song" but it is like a symphony or instrumental they played it on a wedding commercial that's why i relate it to that. and they played it in the movie "Dude, where's my car?" HELP !!!

Not cannon, but canon. The song is "Canon in D" by Johann Pachelbel. It's a fantastic piece of music and is a common choice for wedding marches.

Its by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's...its hawaiian music..its got the same lyrics as the one in wizard of oz but a different tune! Im getting married outside underneath a big pretty willow tree and I was wondering if that song would be a good song to go down the aisle with! Reply:My now sister-in-law walked down the aisle to a version of that song. (I honestly don't know who sang it - it sounded kind of reggae to me.) No one thought it was at all inappropriate. It's only 1 small part of your wedding, so if it makes you happy, then go for it - especially with the non-traditional wedding location you described.

I personally wouldn't, because it's so popular, probably because of that one Drew Barrymore film. But otherwise I think it's a perfectly fine song.

And still, I wouldn't use it to come into the church. It would be a better first dance song.

Reply:I can suggest one not to sing or play at a wedding, which would be "White Wedding" which I hear alot at weddings, it is about drug addiction, not a real wedding. Make sure whatever you choose, what it is really about....some songs are tricky! I would ask them if they have a favourite song, alot of couples do.............or what kind of song they would prefer............country,rock etc and type......romantic, fun, modern or old fashioned etc. That would help somewhat. I think it is really sort of a personal thing and really should be chosen by the couple. My wedding song was "love is all around" by Wet Wet Wet, which was from a movie we saw together when we first met.............most weddings I've been to they said the couple chose the song!

I need a song to dance to at a wedding. I'm not talking ballroom style. We're going more for the interpretive classical style of dancing. Something that starts out nice and soft. And then goes techno, hiphop or pop all of a sudden. It can be with or without lyrics.

i have a friend who is in a band and is gonna sing at our wedding he is gonna sing Truly Madly Deepl by Savage Garden for my entrance and the I knew I love you b4 I met you by Savage Garden for my exit. I also wanna incorprate Somewhere over the Rainbow (Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole version) because my friend knows how to play all string instruments and the Ukelaili is used in this version.

I need a Scottish love song which can be sung a cappella as a friend of mine walks down the aisle at her wedding (in a Scottish castle). Aae Fond Kiss is the right style but lyrics are about separation, so not particularly apt! Suggestions please anyone?

This is a hard question but...I want everyone to sing a song together--we will have someone playing the guitar and we will print out the lyrics for everyone--but we're not religious and don't want it to be a religious song. Is there anything easy to sing, that at least some people will already know?

I am having my best guy friend sing a song during my wedding. I need a song that a southern baptist church won't frown on but still conveys the message of "I love you forever". I like newer but slower. Something that is similar to "I'll be" by Edwin McCain. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I like the song Far Away by Nickelback - I never really thought of it as a song for a wedding march before, but I can see how you could make that work.

me and my partner are getting married next year. we got together 2 and a half years ago and our song was cascadas everytime we touch (we had it well before it came out) so its really special to us. we want to do something different at our wedding so we had they idea of playing the slow version of this song but then towards the end have it sped up to the fast version.

I need to sing a song at my cousins wedding... can anyone please suggest a nice song with REALLY decent lyrics (without lyrics like kiss me, kiss you, make love et all) and if possible the song should be at a medium pitch. I already thought of shania twain's from this moment on, but its really too high for me when she sings "my dreams came true because of you"

I just did a wedding where the brides sister chose to sing an Avril Lavigne song. The bride only listens to country. Or another wedding where the singer chose a piece all about god guiding relationships for the couple but the groom was athiest. It was really out of place.

If the only thing wrong with the Shania song is that line just change the notes. I'm sure you've heard cover songs before....they never follow exactly and part of the challenge is to make the song your own.

2. Billie Holiday-"Come Rain or Come Shine," "I ONly Have Eyes For You." "The Very Thought of You."

5. The Dixie Chicks- They do a really pretty song that is not too country, but I cannot remember the title.

I love the traditional "Luther Vandross- Here and Now", but ya know, i'm also digging the Justin Timberlake/Beyonce "Until the End of Time". It's more...current...updated...new age even. Something i'm actually looking for (my "theme" if you will, is an updated version/new spin on what my parents did and grandparents before that).

Reply:I'm not sure if this will help but i got married two years ago. In the wedding ceremony itself we used some classics, some classical music. But for our song. The one we chose to dance our first dance too we chose Katie Melua, Closest thing to Crazy! lol.

I think we were both crazy! But listen to some albums that you both like. Chose a song which means something to you both.

If you mean for the actual wedding. Just go with some Classical tunes. They always work well. Ask your parents if they have some favourite tunes.. they'd feel well special if they heard thier tunes in your wedding...

If all else fails just type in wedding tunes in a search bar! lol

I'm helping out with a wedding in November of this year. I'm supposed to be looking for wedding songs for a first dance, as well as a father/daughter dance song. The first dance has to have something to do with being friends or even dating for a long time before getting to this final step. The father/daughter dance... well, they've been through some hard times, not speaking, things like that. I need something to showcase their relationship.

I know this is a lot to ask with all these guidelines, but I'm stumped. I'll take a look at anything!

When my (then b/f) first heard that song, it brough tears to his eyes.

You have time. I would advise that when you listen to the radio, keep a piece of paper close by. When you hear a possible song you like, write it down. I had about 30 to my list.

I'm not a big fan of hers, BUT a great selection would be Stay With You by John Legend. It's a beautiful song and it speaks the truth about relationships. Hope this helps!

Do you think Aeris' theme from FFVII would work well? It is my favorite game and the song is beautiful, just not sure if it would sound appropriate in a wedding. I have no problems that the song is from a video game, and neither would my mom, I am just wondering about the song itself.

OMG I LOOOOVE that song! FFVII is the BEST! I think it would be appropriately romantic, especially the updated orchestrated version. Its not a "singing" kind of love song but a very emotional one none the less. I could see it applied in this situation. I would play it for her and see if she likes it.

We are all set for our wedding on July 7th. The planning/organization was easy. The hard part for us has been having to choose a wedding song. We don't want anything cliche or tacky, and at the same time, we want something that speaks of our relationship without sacrificing my musical taste or his (I am pretty main-stream and he is off the beaten path).

Sure, some of those are sappy or old, but they are all nice. My suggestion for your wedding is - listen to the groups you both like as a couple and pick your fave songs that will show how you feel about each other. Doesn't matter if it's cliche or what, it's your wedding! Do what YOU guys want to do or you will regret it!

It's all about what it means to you. secondly, each of you get a piece of paper and either your CD collections or the Internet. Each of you write down your top 10 songs you want for your wedding song. Then trade lists. You can only take 5 off of his list and he the same with yours. Then re-exchange and pick 2 favorites out of what is left. Then discuss and listen to the 4 songs in entirety, paying attention to lyrics, music, and how the song makes you feel, and choose from there.

We used Canon in D for the bridesmaids, I walked down the aisle to At Last, Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight was our unity sand song, and we walked back down the aisle together to the University of Oklahoma's fight song. It's all a matter of your personal tastes and how traditional you want to be. I clearly didn't want to be all that traditional. I have a friend who had her husband/groomsmen and bridesmaids walk in to the Imperial Death March from Star Wars!

I recommend going to amazon.com and searching for wedding music. You will be able to play clips of each song on the CD to determine whether or not you like the song without having to download the whole thing.

I sang It's Your Love (Tim McGraw/Faith Hill) and Because You Loved Me (Celine Dion) in two weddings recently.

Reply:its one of my favourite songs, the lyrics are fitting and IF your fiance likes the song then no worries, but your mum does have a point the song is very one-sided. the only wedding i've been to where a song was so one-sided was many years ago and the song was 'amanda' which was the bride's name. there were a few raised eyebrows from the guests over that, the only one that thought it worked was the bride.

It is called Pachabel's Canon in D Major - Wedding March.

I don't usually go for classical songs but it made me cry and still does everytime i hear it. When i look at my other half i just feel all the love i have for him and he has for me.

What's a really slow and romantic wedding song? I really don't want suggestions about songs that are commonly used. Something out of the ordinary with a lot of meaning. I'm thinking along the lines of Dave Matthews, but some of his love songs are too fast to be a song to dance to at my wedding. What is a good song for my fiance and his estranged mother to dance to at our wedding?

my fiance and his mother are not close at all. She gave him away at birth and his grandparents raised him. His grandparents are both gone now, and he wants his mother involved in the wedding, but doesn't want a song with too much meaning to it. He is more or less doing the groom- mother dance out of respect for his grandparents memory. PLEASE HELP.

However....I'm sure his grandparents wouldn't want him to do something at his wedding that he's not comfortable doing. If he's not comfortable with this, I would suggest simply eliminating it. I got to lots of weddings (I work in a bridal salon) and don't really see the groom/mother dance anymore. Frequently, the groom and his mom will dance while the bride and her dad dance--but that's in the cases they do it. Don't feel you guys HAVE to include that in your wedding if you're not comfortable with it. I'm sure there's another way that he can include his mother, and still honor his grandparents memories.

There is a song I found on youtube that's all piano. Its by an asian pianist named Yiruma and the song is called "Kiss The Rain". Its sooooo beautiful!!!! That's what I'm using for the processional. Its so pretty, and at the very end there's a slight chord change where I will begin to walk down.

My fiance and I have chosen She's Everything by Brad Paisley for our first dance at our wedding. He says it's perfect and it has been special to us since we met. However some of my friends have made the statement that the song is all about the girl and a wedding song should be about the couple. This is really the only song that has meaning to us, so does it matter? Please don't comment if you haven't heard the song or read the lyrics.

if this is a song the two of you enjoy and share a fondness for then its the song you should have! your friend's opinions are just that - their opinions - and they don't count - yours does. so have your song sweetie and if you want to do something more then later in the evening have the d.j. play brad's new song "i'm still a guy" its a fun song and is one-sided as well!

I thought it was very one sided plus I know that she always thought that she was the most beautiful women in the world and that she is/was too pretty for her husband. I didn't think it was a good choice in song (knowing how she felt).

Choose the song that suits you best as a couple and if it happens to be a one sided song (for the right reasons) then choose it.

Your wedding is your day. It's all about you. If there are people who don't like how you want your wedding and reception, they can choose not to come. You will have enough going on that you don't need the petty drama.
